Design in Transition: Our Evolving Process in the Age of AI

There’s often a question around whether AI will replace designers. From what we experience in our day-to-day work, it’s not replacing us—it’s reshaping our role.

At Studio CoConcepts, we’ve seen the design process evolve constantly. But this shift isn’t just about adopting another new tool. It’s changing how we think, create, and deliver as designers.

We’ve found ourselves evolving in a few clear ways:

From execution to direction
Earlier, a large part of our time went into creating multiple iterations manually. Now, we’re guiding the process—setting the design direction, refining outputs, and making sharper decisions faster.

Stronger focus on concept and storytelling
With AI taking care of repetitive or time-heavy tasks, we’re spending more time on what really matters—building a concept, shaping a narrative, and creating designs that feel relevant and emotionally engaging.

Blending creativity with new tools
Our work today sits at the intersection of design and technology. Alongside traditional skills, we’re constantly learning how to work with AI tools, digital workflows, and new ways of visualising ideas.

The future is collaborative
For us, the most effective process isn’t AI-led—it’s AI-supported. It helps us move faster and explore more, but the thinking, context, and sensitivity still come from us.

At its core, design is about people—understanding lifestyles, cultures, and emotions. AI can generate endless options, but it doesn’t fully grasp nuance or intent.

We don’t see AI as competition. When used thoughtfully, it’s one of the most powerful tools we’ve added to our process—helping us push ideas further while staying rooted in human insight.
